3 things I've learned from teaching private lessons

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT. Obvious... I know! But seriously, when you can pinpoint specific corrections for a dancer, there's so much to gain. Finding particular muscle imbalances, are they a righty or a lefty, discovering their thought process and WHY they move the way they move... these are all extremely helpful tools in aiding the dancer. Once the instructor can break down habitual movement patterns, real change can begin to occur.

PRIVATE LESSONS CAN BE A GAME CHANGER "I had NO idea I was doing that?!" is something I often hear a dancer say when I give them a critically specific correction. When the dancer knows what needs to be changed, down to the pinky toe placement, some serious leveling up in technique occurs. The dancer can then carry that correction to each class and start to make changes to their technical training. Dancers, your biggest advocate is YOU!

DISCIPLINE AND EFFORT When a dancer can spend the time, effort, and discipline it takes to complete a private lesson, there's a much deeper thought being communicated. "I am worth it". Each dancer is special and deserves special attention just for them. SELF CARE, MY FRIENDS. Private lessons are indeed an act of self care.
